This is great…but I don’t have any A4 paper. Would you happen to have a template for 8 1/2 x 11″ paper (US)?
C’est super … mais je n’ai pas de papier A4. Souhaitez-vous arrive d’avoir un modèle de 8 1 / 2 x 11 po (US)?
sept 15, 2009 @ 23:04:53
Ah c’est cool, ça!! je vais en faire un sur un papier custom de mon cru !
sept 15, 2009 @ 23:06:59
Very cool. Made some modifications to the template to allow for my protective case, but otherwise, this works great!
Also, the recommended paper weight may need to be increased.
sept 15, 2009 @ 23:17:49
we have a paper / vinyl cutter that will cut this thing out in about one 30 seconds… got to give it a try. i know a lot of people that will one of these.

Yes, in America, we enjoy being proprietary.
Seriously, though, we do need to join the rest of the world.

Nice work!
With my Roland DG Print&Cur plotter I can automatically cut the shape using a plastic material!
This is the process and the result:

THX for sharing this !

I used 110lb Card Stock which I believe is heavier than the 270 g/m paper, and it does not support the weight of my iPhone. Find heavier stock paper if you are going to try this.
sept 16, 2009 @ 14:57:25
Yeah, It depends of the type of paper too.

Here the iPhone Dock on my website:

Enjoy it!

This is a lot of effort for pretty mediocre results (although it was kind of fun to do). I found that if I reinforced the back with strips of cardboard it worked a LOT better. It’s a little difficult to fit the charger in there though.
sept 16, 2009 @ 18:55:36
I loved the design of this the moment I saw it.
So I grabbed the thickest card I had (220 gsm) and got to work. 5 minutes later I had the completed project, but a dock that was incapable of holding my iPhone.
The 220 gsm was too flimsy. So I guess it’s back to the paper shop for some 270. The flimsy version serves as a business card holder now
Thank you for sharing your design.

I doubled up two sheets of 100# Cover weight to make it work.
I used this paper: http://www.gmund.com/products/savanna.
With the texture embossed into the paper, it’s looks awesome!

The best DIY dock ever. Guys, make sure you’re using at least 270gsm paper, or glue few pieces of paper together to make this work.
sept 17, 2009 @ 10:08:21
cool idea – will try it – http://www.kiener.me/2009/09/17/iphone-dock-zum-selberfalten/

I used 250g photo paper (heaviest I had to hand). It supports the iPhone in landscape, which is a plus as I have no stand that does that, but the stand’s back couldn’t hold the ipHone in portrait.
However I fixed this with an I (Times serif style uppercase ‘i’) shaped piece of the same card, cut from the cast-off. I inserted this piece such that it locked one end into the bottom of the cable slot in the stand’s back and the other in the thin cut-out slot for the dock connector.
The original template for the stand could be modified to not totally remove the long thin piece of card that makes way for the cable slot in the stand’s back. By leaving it attached it could then be used to create a brace for the back by connecting it to the base of the stand: such as bringing it through the dock connector slot and back up the arrow slot.

Cool, Have you any illustration ?

Great, Thx !
sept 17, 2009 @ 16:24:42
Wouldn’t this be a problem for those iPhones that spontaneously burst into flames? Perhaps the template can be cut out of a non-flammable metal or ceramic? But then you would have to buy expensive metal cutting machines or use water-cooled ceramic blades. But wait, how would you fold the metal or ceramic after cutting them? I think I’ll just stick to throwing my iPhone on my desk.
Thanks for the great idea.
sept 18, 2009 @ 07:38:05
I used what I think is 400gsm cardboard. It supports the phone quite well, even when your pushing against the phone. However, I wasted a few because if I fold , it weakens and it breaks where you slot the 2 pieces in.
sept 18, 2009 @ 11:29:42
Very cool …
thx you the best..

sept 18, 2009 @ 14:22:28
Just gave it a go with 300gsm paper, and works okay with the iPhone on it’s side, but collapses when put on it’s end. A heavier card would work better.
Here’s my pics of it in situ: http://twitpic.com/i5mq9
sept 18, 2009 @ 14:53:29
Great solution! I added a bit of weight by gluing a peace of metal under the dock made of 300 grams black carton and it works great with my iPhone.
